Animation toy thaumatrope. One of the first animated toys. It was especially popular in the Victorian era.
It is a disc with pictures on both sides. When the disc rotates, images merge into one.

A thaumatrope is an optical toy that was popular in the 19th century. A disk with a picture on each side is attached to two pieces of string. When the strings are twirled quickly between the fingers the two pictures appear to blend into one. Effect of the thaumatrope became an important discovery. After it zoetrope, phenakistiscope, praxinoscope and other animation toys were invented.
